Jair Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under home confinement.

The former head of state was found guilty of planning a military coup in September and given more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he was staying under confinement pending appeals.

High Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a precautionary step after "new facts" were revealed.

This involved seeking to disable his tracking device and a summons to a demonstration that could "allow for a potential flight.

Court Filing Details Escape Risks

In a paperwork permitting the arrest, the judge said information from the facility tracking the former president's confinement suggested the ex-president's aim to disable the surveillance device to secure accomplishment in his getaway".

Context of Sentencing
